A 12 mile circular walk starting in Wheathampstead and going through, Mackerye End, Gustardwood Common, Ayot St Lawrence and Ayot St Peter. The walk has strong literary associations, Charles Lamb wrote of Mackerye End Farm in 'Essays of Elia' and George Bernard Shaw lived at Ayot St Lawrence. GBS chose Ayot as it appeared to have the eldest number of deceased people recorded in the graveyard and he wanted to live to a ripe old age....mmm. Plenty more 'Neil's factoids' will be dispensed during the day. The Bull pub should be open on our return to Wheathampstead.
