WEEKEND – Wild Goose Lodge, Slimbridge, Gloucestershire

Walking in the Severn Vale with the opportunity to visit the Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre and the cathedral city of Gloucester. Staying at an independent hostel - Wild Goose Lodge, GL2 7BP, a chance to explore an area not recently visited by the group.

Weekend information

Weekends away open for booking 4 months before and close 2 months before the departure date, as we have to finalise numbers and payments  two months prior to our stay.

Remember that if you should cancel your place at short notice you may still be liable for your share of the transport costs. 

The meeting place for weekends is outside Barnet Odeon EN5 1AB which is about ¼ mile south of High Barnet Underground station on the Great North Road (A1000) at the junction of Station Road. 

For most weekends away we leave Barnet between 6.30 and 7pm on Friday (and occasionally even earlier, please check with the organiser before booking), so that this will give drivers enough time to reach the YH before the closing time of 11pm. If you do get delayed on your way to the meeting place then the driver will only be able to wait a short time after the agreed meeting time otherwise he/she will have to set off without you.

We leave on a Friday evening and come back on a Sunday evening (Monday evening for Bank Holidays). For short weekends we leave on Saturday morning.

It is recommended that you bring sandwiches and drink with you for the journey, as there is usually only time to stop for fuel and toilets but not for a coffee and/or meal in the service area.


Note for the driver: If you get delayed en-route then phone the hostel before 10pm to give them an estimated time of arrival. This will enable the Manager to let you know what the arrangements are to get in after closing time (for example the number for the keypad that will open the front door for you!).
