NLOG local walks protocol

  • Please ensure you have familiarised yourself with the fact sheets before joining a walk.
  • Please could all walk leaders send the local walks coordinator the names of all attendees.
  • If you would like a lift or are able to offer one, please use the group email to arrange this with group members.
  • Unfortunately we no longer allow dogs to join us on our walks.
  • You take part in all events at your own risk.
  APRIL 2024
Tuesday 9th Social - Discovery Hall Talk by Anne Luder – Astounding Adaptions – Survivial of the Fittest - Plants have been around for far longer than man. This presentation looks at the wonderful ways some have adapted to ensure their continuation as well as things we take for granted.

Meet at Discovery Hall at 8pm.
Friday 12th Evening Walk - Trent Park A short circular walk in Trent Park (under 4 miles), followed by an optional meal locally. 

Meet 6.50pm to depart 7.00pm under the clock outside Oakwood tube station (Piccadilly Line). Bring a torch.
Saturday 13th Day Walk - Thames Path A 5 mile walk along the Thames Path from Richmond to Kew, followed by an afternoon visit to Kew Gardens. 

Meet at Richmond Train Station at 11.00am
Tuesday 16th Evening Walk - Barnet Hadley Wood Circular Walk A 4.5 mile walk through Highland Park, King George’s Fields and Hadley Wood, returning along the Pymmes Brook.

Meet 6.30pm outside the Barnet Everyman cinema for a prompt 6.45pm start.
Sunday 21st Day Walk - Barnet to Mill Hill A 10 mile circular walk from Barnet Everyman, following the Dollis Valley to Woodside Park, through Darlands Nature Reserve towards Mill Hill, then on to Totteridge Fields Nature Reserve and back along the Dollis Valley. Bring a packed lunch.

Wednesday 24th Evening Walk - The South Bank 4-mile linear walk from Waterloo Station to The Tower of London. From Waterloo Station we’ll go via Lambeth Palace to the Thames, past the London Eye, Southbank Centre, National Theatre, Oxo Tower, Shakespeare’s Globe, The Clink, Southwark Cathedral, HMS Belfast and we’ll finish our 4-Mile riverside tour by crossing Tower Bridge.

Meet 6.45pm for a 7pm start at Waterloo Station, at the meeting point outside the station Information Office
Sunday 28th Day Walk - Trent Park A 10 mile circular walk from Barnet Everyman cinema.

Meet outside the Barnet Everyman for a prompt 10.00am start. Please bring a packed lunch.
Tuesday 30th Evening Walk - Barnet Whitings Hill A 4.5 mile circular walk from Barnet, following the Dollis Valley to Whitings Hill open space and back again. May stop for a drink after.

Meet outside Barnet Everyman cinema for a prompt 6.30pm start.

Saturday 4th Half Day Walk - Cassiobury Park A 6 mile circular walk in Cassiobury Park. The route takes us by the River Gade, Grand Union Canal towards Chandler’s cross and into Whippendell, Blackets and Dolly’s Woods which are often blanketed in bluebells at this time of year. Refreshments are available afterwards at Daisy’s cafe in the park.

Meet at 9:50am for 10am start at Cassiobury Park Car Park, Gade Ave, Watford WD18 7LG
Wednesday 8th Evening Walk - Gobions Wood A 3 mile circular walk to see the bluebells in Gobions Wood.

Meet 6.50pm outside Tealicious Tea Room, 83-85 Bradmore Green, Brookmans Park. AL9 7QT for 7pm start.
Sunday 12th Day Walk - Broxbourne Woods National Nature Reserve A 10 mile circular walk. A woodland walk in Hertfordshire’s only national nature reserve, with a sculpture trail at the start. Please wear walking boots and bring a packed lunch.

Meet 10.15am for a prompt 10.30am start at Broxbourne Woods East car park, Pembridge Lane, Broxbourne, EN10 7QR (free parking). Map OS Explorer 174 327069.
Wednesday 15th Evening Walk - South Mimms An approximately 4 mile gentle circular walk through woodlands and over farmland.

Meet 7.15pm outside Black Horse pub, end of Blackhorse Lane, South Mimms EN6 3PS 
Thursday 23rd Evening Walk - Hadley Common And Woods To Jacks Lake A 4.5 mile circular walk through picturesque Monken Hadley Common and Woods to Jack’s Lake and back. 

Meet 7.00pm start outside Ye Olde Monken Holt (the Monk Pub), 193 High Street, Barnet, EN5 5SU

Thursday 30th Evening Walk - Essendon and Little Berkhamsted A 4.5 mile circular walk along field paths and through woodland in the countryside around these two villages.

Meet 6.30pm for a 6.45pm start at St Marys Church, 2 Church Street, Essendon, AL9 6AS (parking on roads around the village)

Tuesday 4th Evening Walk - Alexandra Palace 4 mile circular walk through Alexandra Park following a former railway line now a nature corridor to Highgate woods and returning via footpaths to the station.

Meet 6.50pm for 7.00pm start at Alexandra Palace train station, AP exit
Wednesday 12th Evening Walk - Barnet To Wood Green - Linear Walk A 6 mile walk, following the Pymmes Brook from Oak Hill Park to Arnos Park, then the New River to Wood Green. Possibility of food and drink after.

Meet 6pm for a prompt 6.15pm start at the entrance to Oak Hill Park at the corner of Church Hill Road / Little Grove. Tube (Piccadilly Line at Wood Green), bus or train (main line at Ally Pally) for onward travel afterwards
Wednesday 19th Evening Walk - Lancaster Gate To Notting Hill Gate - Kensington Literary Walk A 3 mile evening linear walk through Kensington Gardens, pretty residential streets of former homes of literary icons, a literary statue and even past the site of a drowning!

Meet Lancaster Gate Underground Station 7pm – Finish Notting Hill Underground Station.
Thursday 27th Evening Walk - Oak Hill Park To Arnos Park A  4 / 5 mile circular walk through Oak Hill Park following Pymmes Brook to Brunswick Park then along Waterfall Walk to Arnos Park and back again. 

Meet 6.30pm for 6.45pm start in the park at the corner of Church Hill Road / Little Grove
  JULY 2024
Thursday 4th Evening Walk - Dollis Valley Green Walk A 4.5-mile circular walk along the Dollis Valley Greenwalk then through Totteridge Village, along the edge of a nature reserve to Woodside Park and then back along another section of the Dollis Valley Greenwalk.

Meet outside Totteridge & Whetstone tube station (Northern line) to start walking at 6.30pm.
Wednesday 10th Evening Walk - Potters Bar A 4 mile circular walk along footpaths and fields around Potters Bar. We will go to the Admiral Byng afterwards where you should be able to get food as well as a drink.

Meet 7.10pm for 7.15pm start outside Potters Bar station EN6 1SQ. Parking in nearby streets
Thursday 18th Evening Walk - Golders Green To Highgate A 4.5 mile linear walk, starting from Golders Green Tube Station (Northern Line  - Edgware Branch), continuing through West Heath, Hampstead Heath and Highgate Village. 

Meet Golders Green Tube Station (Northern Line - Edgware Branch) at 6.30pm for 6.45pm start. The walk finishes at Highgate Station (Northern Line – High Barnet Branch).
Wednesday 24th Evening Walk - Ridge Circular A 4 mile circular walk

Meet 6.50pm for 7.00pm start outside The Old Guinea Pub, Ridge, Herts, EN6 3LH, refreshments back at the Old Guinea pub.
  AUGUST 2024
Thursday 1st Evening Walk - Wild Hill A 4 mile circular walk.

Meet outside The Woodman pub, Wild Hill AL9 6EA for 6.30pm start (do not park in pub car park)
Thursday 8th Evening Walk - Regents Park/Primrose Hill A 3.5 mile circular walk around Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill. The Regent’s Park area provides elegant and interesting settings for walkers in the heart of London. The park was the idea of the Prince Regent, later to become George IV. Much of the design was by John Nash. 

Meet 7.00pm start outside Regent’s Park underground station (Bakerloo line).
Friday 16th Ghost Walk – Spectres And Sleuths A 3.5 mile linear walk. This year’s ghost walk encounters two great musicians, a celebrated medical curiosity and the birth of the messiah. Oh yes, and a pound shop Poirot.

Start: Bond Street underground station 7pm. Finish: Baker Street underground station.
Wednesday 21st Evening Walk - Hawkshead Wood (near South Mimms) a 3.5 mile circular walk.

Meet outside The Woodman pub, 21 Warrengate Road, Hatfield AL9 7TT 7.00pm (do not park in pub car park)
Friday 23rd - Monday 26th Bank Holiday Weekend Away - Pembrokeshire Coast See members e-mail for details.
