Tuesday 14th Social - Discovery Hall  Talk: Why bees? with Adam Williams (aka Hivesman) from North London Beekeepers

We need bees and bees need us. It’s a symbiotic relationship where the stakes for survival are increasing on both sides. Honey bees are under threat in ways unlike they have experienced since the last ice age and at any point in the 14 million years since they evolved from their wasp ancestors. The dangers are real and the risks are high, but how does working with bees affect the people who care for them? What benefits do they have on a life? And how do we answer the question ‘Why bees?’.

Adam has been keeping honey bees for 8 years and started by collected a swarm from a park tree in Lincolnshire. He took an apprenticeship with a commercial bee farmer in Norfolk and his craft has continued to grow in skill, confidence and enjoyment ever since. Adam moved his bees (20 colonies strong by then) to London in 2021 and is proudly an urban beekeeper.

With an opportunity to purchase 454g (1lb) jars of honey for £10 each.
